She sits down across from me, a cup in her hand. “You know what’s really strange?” She says.
I raise my brow from my book. Is she talking to me?
“I don’t know you but I feel we’ve met before.” Her eyes meet mine.
“Oh?”
She sips her beverage. “Mm.”
I shut my book and rest my elbows on the table. “Perhaps this is some kind of fate.” I smile.
She smiles back. “Maybe it is.”
We sit there, she sips her coffee while I study her, feeling awkward. “Would you like to go to dinner sometime? Maybe we can get to know each other?”
Each week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple hosts Friday Fictioneers where we write a flash fiction of 100 words, more or less, based on the picture above. Apparently the guy reading the book is fated to be with the girl sipping coffee. 😉
I was almost expecting this to be some long-married couple indulging in some role play, but no, it seems it really is the start of something… big, maybe.

I like Claire’s idea of a married couple in roleplay, but I also like the idea that the girl’s confidence is genuinely going to kick something off. Intriguing opening.

It’s a trap…..

Yinglan, Good story. I hope this is just a good beginning for a friendship and not something creepy. You have to be so careful these days. Well written. 🙂 — Susan
