Remember these guys?
That’s right, I’m writing another post on them.
When my “rich friend” had asked me to “take care” of them last month, I knew it wasn’t temporary. My mom had asked her if it will be okay to ship them back to California along with the car. Well early yesterday morning at 7-something, the shipping company finally came to pick up the car and when I asked him if he could take the turtle too, he said no.
He told me anything alive would not pass inspection when entering California. So I’m stuck with these guys until who knows when. My “rich friend” had called me shortly after and I told her the driver would not take her turtle. She had said, “That’s okay.”
Well, that’s easy for you to say. I would have to take care of it and I still know nothing about turtles. I googled how to take care of aquatic turtle and all the results only pointed to how turtles survive in the ocean. Is my friend the only person raising turtle?
Anyway, I have no clue how much to feed them so at the moment, I’m just giving them pellets twice a day and a protein treatment whenever they’re restless. I’m just trying to keep them alive until my friend comes back. I just hope I don’t kill it but I think if I do, I’d be doing these guys a favor because they seem miserable stuck in that tank all day. If my friend asks, I might tell her, “Everyone makes mistake.” But I will try not to kill them in the meantime. 😉
Do you have a pet store there? Call them ask them what you feed turtles and how much. Maybe you should look under tortoises’ not turtles in google.

I actually looked up tortoise too and got some answers got petsmart. The thing is they have these classification like babies and adults. I know these are definitely not babies but are they adults? My gut tells me they are teens and that’s probably why they are so restless. Teens just want to go out, right?

Probably. Take them outside and let them run around but keep an eye on them. They will grow huge over the years and live a very long life. They would be great pets!

Oh, of course I always let them bathe in the sun while I’m changing their water. 🙂

That’s nice. Do you have a larger box for them? Maybe they need different food or more of it.

No, I don’t unfortunately. All my boxes are cardboard and I’m afraid to feed them anything else. After all, they’re not mine.

I know they are not yours but the owner doesn’t sound like she/he gives two cents about them and they need someone that will care for them. If you don’t want them, call the Animal Shelter and see if they know someone who wants them. They live very long lives and grow to become huge. They are good pets. Tell the owner you are going to do this if they don’t come get them or something. Be their advocate.

If I was living alone, I will most definitely do that but unfortunately, my mom will probably kill me if she found out I handed the turtles over to an animal shelter.

Yes, I understand. Do you think they might want their “own” container rather than be in the same one? I think that would depend if they are of the same gender. ???

They are definitely the same gender. I feel like if I separated them, they would be bored to death.

Only you would know. Do they get along with each other?

They seem so.

Don’t they eat bugs? Do you catch bugs for them? What about lettuce? Don’t they also eat lettuce?

Eww, no, no bugs. Lettuce? I gave it them once but they don’t seem to like it. At least after 12 hours, they still hadn’t touch it.

Okay, I have no idea what they eat, just seems to me they would eat them in the wild. I read where they eat wildflowers and cacti and stuff. I personally think that having a couple of tortoises would be fun and interesting pets. Do they have names?
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, they don’t have names and I don’t think their owner was the kind of person that would name them.

Why don’t you name them, just for yourself.

I’m not good at naming things. 🙂

You could write a post about the two poor tortoises that you got dumped with.

Another thing. If they are teens then they are itching for the opposite sex.

That’s not good. It spells trouble.

LOL but it’s nature. haha

Oh you did get stuck with them. That explains why they were in such bad shape when she gave them to you.

Yeah, I got stuck with them. I don’t think they were in bad shape though, they were just dirty and okay, maybe they are just a teensy malnourished. They are probably scare of eating now. 🙂

I found the following site to be very helpful: http://petvalu.com/aquatic-turtle-101/?lang=us it lists what to look out for, what they eat, etc. and supplemental vitamins Good luck

Thanks for the link, it was definitely more helpful than the ones I’ve been looking at.

I used to have a pet turtle. We fed her little fish called “feeder fish.” They’re basically small, inexpensive fish.

Did they like it?

Yeah, fish time was like the highlight of her day! She instantly turned into a speedy turtle when there was a fish in her tank. I used to feed her pellets when she was smaller, but moved on to fish when she grew up. Looks like the ones that you have are big enough to start eating fish.

That’s good. Mine seems like big fans of red shrimps but I don’t dare to give them too much. I’m afraid of overfeeding them.
