Monday’s Finish the Story: Trap Set and Done

2015-06-29-bw-beachamThe Mayor and the town manager waved as their next victim approached. “You think tourists will fall for our trap?” Mayor Bob Sherman asked his brother, Ed Sherman.

Ed scoffed, “Who knows? People nowadays, they don’t like ta venture. That girl in that book, now that’s an adventurer. What’s her name again?”

“Shh, a customer’s coming.” A red mini-van rolled up to the tiny parking lot next to the brother’s shed. Three boys and a girl stepped out of the car. They were wearing the strangest outfits. Bob greeted them. “Welcome to Sherman!”

The kids smiled, “We’re a little lost. Wonder if you can help us.”

“You’re just in time. We’re having a community breakfast today. Y’all should come in. Oh, but of course, non-residents have to pay but we’ll go easy on ya.”

The tall lanky boy looked at the others and frowned. Then the stout boy said, “Dude, I gotta eat!” He followed the brothers into the trap City Hall.

  1. Very interesting story! The way it’s written you don’t REALLY know at the end who’s been trapped. I don’t know if you intended it, but it’s almost like a circular trap, each thinking they’ve trapped the other into whatever their conniving is.

    • I think you’re right. I wasn’t really thinking that when I wrote it. The kids can turn out to be thieves, stealing the Sherman brother’s food without paying or they can just be dumb, paying for everything and end up with empty pockets by the end of their meals. So yeah, I guess each side’s thinking they’ve trapped the other. Thank you for reading.
