Monday’s Finish the Story: Welcome to Hollywood


2015-07-06-bw-beachamThe barista shook his head. That hedge couldn’t have moved closer overnight. Could it?

He scratched his head as he stared out the window of the Starbucks. “Have you seen anything change so fast?”

His co-worker snickered, “Yeah, fake grass. Dude, those hedges, not real.” The barista raised his eyebrow. “They are foam boards with green things glued to it.”

“How do you know this?”

“Everybody knows about it, duh. I mean, it’s kind of obvious. Have you ever seen anyone out there trimming the hedges?”

“So you’re telling me that it’s a fake hedge.” His co-worker nodded. “So, this town, fake grass, fake houses, fake hedges. Is there anything real here?”

His co-worker laughed. “Dude, nothing is real here. They don’t call it Hollywood for nothing.”

The barista frowned, “Wait, this is Hollywood? I thought this is Universal City!”

“Dude, Universal City is Hollywood. You’re working next to Universal Studios.” He clapped a hand on the barista’s shoulder. “Welcome to Hollywood, dude.”
