“Look at all the balloons, mommy!” Eliza chirps as they are strolling through the farmer’s market.
“I know, honey.”
“Should we get one for Robert for when we visit him later?” Her mom looks at the balloon tower. She feels like it’ll be a hassle to have Liza carrying the balloon all this time. Besides, do hospitals allow balloons? She looks down and sees her little girl gazing up at her with pleading eyes. “Pleeeease!”
She smiles. “Oh alright, go pick out a balloon, sweetie.” Robert is her 11-year-old nephew and Liza’s favorite cousin who’s currently under long-term medical care at the hospital for an incurable terminal illness. Today is his birthday. She watches Liza’s finger shoot straight up at the green dinosaur. “Are you sure, sweetheart?” Liza nods.
With a little effort, the balloon lady finds the string to the green dinosaur balloon and brings it down. She hands the balloon lady a one-dollar-bill as the balloon lady hands the balloon to Eliza. “It’s Robert’s favorite.” Eliza says and smiles up at her mother.

I think Eliza and Robert were best friends and so when Robert became ill, she started to miss the time when they got to play together. I have no doubt that the balloon will bring a smile to Robert’s face. Thank you for reading.
