“Are you excited for our honeymoon?” Michael moaned while wrapping his arms just below Emily’s breasts and kissing her neck.
“Of course,” Emily said looking out to the ocean.
“Last call to board,” the porter yelled below.
Emily quietly sighed, “We’ll have a lovely time, right?”
Michael took Emily’s hand and intertwined his fingers with hers. “Absolutely.”
That night, as the boat glided smoothly on the water, Emily stood on the top deck, enjoying the warm breeze blow across her face. As her right hand played with her wedding band, a voice appeared behind her. “Was it worth it?”
She turned and saw Michael point a gun at her. “Michael? What are you doing?”
Michael gritted his teeth, “Was it worth it!” His voice and hands were trembling.
“What are you talking about?!”
“You betrayed me.” He pointed at her stomach. “That is not mine, is it?”
“Michael, you don’t understand, I…” Before she could finish, a bang went off. “Michael,” she gasped tearfully as another bang went off, sending her tumbling backwards over the railings.

Very cleverly done, you could see it as it was happening. Great stuff 🙂

Michael doesn’t mess around does he? You betrayed me, POW, you’re dead! Great story Yinglan. I would like to have heard what Emily had to say. Sure was a surprise ending! I wanted to bring your attention to the 6th paragraph. I believe that should read, “That night as the boat glided smoothly on the water, Emily stood on the top deck “enjoying the warm wind blowing” across her face. If you would prefer that I don’t make corrections to your story, please let me know, and I will stop. Great story!! Thank you for your participation. 🙂

I believe she was enjoying a lot of things beside the wind.
I think Michael was just impatient. If he was patient, he would had listened to her explanation. I’m not sure what Emily was going to say but she was definitely pregnant with another man’s child.
Thanks for the inspiring image, by the way, I saw it and a dozen different plots popped into my head and I chose this one.

It was a great story Yinglan! I’m glad the prompt gave you so much inspiration. 🙂 I hope the future ones do the same.

Oh, and if you were trying to say, that it was the view she was enjoying, you could say, “…enjoying the view as the warm wind “blew” across her face.”

Well, she wasn’t enjoying the view because it was dark, there was nothing to see. She was enjoying the warm breeze as it blew across her face.

Oh the suspense! I love flash fiction and hate it at the same time because I really want to know what happens! Brilliantly done!

Thank you, I had a lot of fun writing this and I feel a little villainy when I leave my audience hanging. 😀

I love it! I like how it starts sweet, gets confusing and suspenseful, and then with one simple sentence, “he pointed at her stomach,” everything is turned upside-down.

Poor lady, she may have betrayed Michael but I don’t think she deserved to be shot! A crime of passion I guess. Great story, well written!

I feel bad for her too. By killing her, he had just killed two human beings! Thank you for reading.

Good story! Too bad they couldn’t work things out. He never gave her a chance.

I know! Some men can be so impatient and impulsive. Thank you for reading.

It’s sad that he wouldn’t even give her a chance to share her side of the story. Things definitely deteriorated quickly! I have to wonder what triggered his discovery of her ‘betrayal’…

It’s indeed sad that his impulse took control.
He must had felt her bump when he wrapped his arms around her at the beginning of the story and judging by her reaction…
Thanks for reading.
