Monday’s Finish the Story: A Family Secret

2015-10-19-c2a9-2015-barbara-w-beachamNot knowing what to expect, he made his way into the dark of the forest. I watched him from the shadows as he moved to the edge of the forest, looked back at her, and waved at her. She mirrored.

“I’m going to make this.” He muttered, inhaled a deep breath, picked up the backpack, and took off running, leaping over fallen trees and crawling branches. It was as though it was an effortless task for him.

Nightfall was when he finally stopped and dropped his backpack at the foot of a giant tree. He built a fire with twigs and branches as slowly, I made my way out of the trees as I felt myself changing back to a man.

(Snap!)

His head snapped up. “Uncle, is that you?” He asked without turning.

I uncurled myself from my crouch and stood up. “Yes, nephew,” I replied in a coarse voice and stepped from the trees, “It is I,” I bowed. “It is nice to meet you.”

    1. Thanks and no, the nephew does not have the curse. The uncle did something wrong a long time ago, that’s why he’s cursed to spend the day in his animal form but with human instincts. So no, his uncle would never eat him.
