Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers: Cranky Lizzy

Lizzy was cranky and when she’s cranky, everyone around her is miserable. To prevent that, everyone in her family took turns to cheer her up. This week, it was her brother, Cody’s turn. He’s seventeen and six-foot-seven. He’d tried tickling her, which made things worse, lesson learned. He’d tried taking her to a comedy, that didn’t work either. She’d just ended up criticizing every character in the movie.

So as he received word of Lizzy’s temper tantrum, he alerted his cousin, Mike. “All right, I know it’s my turn but I can’t do this alone.”

“All right, Codester, we got your back.” Cousin Mike asked. Quickly, Cody whispered instructions into his ear. He nodded. “You got it, Codester”

“Hiya, little lady, why the long face?” Cody said, sticking a red stuffed-alien out as Lizzy approached.

Lizzy rolled her eyes. “I know it’s you, Cody.”

“No, it’s not,” Mike said, sticking out a purple alien.

“Ha ha.” Lizzy laughed unenthusiastically.

“Does that mean we succeeded?” Cousin Chris asked, sticking out the blue and yellow aliens.

  1. Hahaha! Bad mood Lizzy! Reminds me of my daughter when she’s in a bad mood. She called me last week in a TERRIBLE mood. After talking to her for awhile I finally said, “I don’t think this is a good day to call me.” That made her even madder and she wouldn’t talk to me for about 4 days! She’s barely talking to me now. *sigh*

    1. Ha ha, I think I based Lizzy on my mom but unlike her brothers, I haven’t had luck of cheering her up. I guess the relationship of brother and sister just works differently than mother and daughter.

  2. Good story. Cranky Lizzy is what I call HM, High Maintenance girl. My granddaughter was like that this morning. Nothing I said or did was right. She was in one bad mood. 🙂
