Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Chinese Delicacy

Since Chinese New Year is coming up next Monday, for this week’s black and white challenge, I have decided to turn my pictures of this traditional Chinese Delicacy into black and white.

The last time I had any of this delicacy was when this picture was taken, Chinese New Year, 2013. Since then, we’ve been too busy to make it.

These are called “角子(jiao zi)” and since I have written about it in my early posts, I am not going to write it again. You can read about “角子(jiao zi)” and see the photographs in colors here.

Did I mention these crispy treats were made from scratch? Stuff in them is a delicious mixture of unsweetened coconut powder, unsalted food-processed peanuts, and lots of sugar.

  1. Ni-How. A few years ago I was in China traveling and it happened to coincide with the Chinese New Year!! I have never seen fireworks like those in China. It was a wonderful celebration. The decorations were breathtaking! I don’t remember eating the wonderful food you have pictured here but I did try something that looked like an egg but didn’t taste like an egg. Sorry I’m so vague. Thanks for the beautiful pictures above. Time for lunch!!

    1. Yeah, we play with firecracker on Chinese New Year. 🙂 It’s loud and smoky. The decoration is really something, isn’t it? Red everywhere, maybe accompanied by a little gold or yellow. I think my favorite part has to be the red envelope. I collected a lot of money this way.

      Looked like an egg but didn’t taste like an egg? Hmm… It might had been an egg spiced to beyond recognition or something different altogether. Interesting.

      By the way, I don’t think I’ve seen this delicacy either until my mom introduced it to me. 😀 I guess they don’t call it rare for nothing.
