This was the first time I had ever had to sign for a letter addressed to Occupant.
Dear Occupant,
I am addressing you as “occupant” due to the fact that we have no knowledge of the name of the current occupant. Moreover, we are writing to address the violation of the lease as well as the artwork you recently put on display across the street.
Section 5, paragraph 2 of the lease specifically states subletting is forbidden at any time during the term of the lease. You have been warned multiple times but you keep subletting. Now three times is an unacceptable amount and the law calls for an eviction. (Please see the attached paper for court summon.)
The second purpose of this letter regards the artwork you recently put on display across the street. We are writing to warn you that it is a crime to display fraudulent artwork in public even if it is a paint-by-number done by you. Please remove the art immediately or the police will be informed.
We look forward to your response regarding the court summon.
Sincerely Yours,
Ronald Gates

Raymond, the occupant, opened the letter, skimmed through it, crumbled it, and threw it across the room along with the court summon shouting, “Bull Sh**! Paint-by-number is classified as original art!”

This is a response for Roger Shipp’s new flash fiction challenge, Flash Fiction For the Purposeful Practitioner. We are given the beginning of the sentence and we are to finish the story.
Very good young lady

Hahahahahaha! I agree! Art is art even if it is paint by number! Loved the story, Yinglan!

I agree too, it takes talent to make paint-by-number look real and nice.

I like your thoughts on this one. I wasn’t sure I could come up with a good #FF for this one, so I’ve passed this week. Your post has inspired me to rethink….Thank you 🙂

Thanks, I was having trouble with this one too and I thought of passing but then I had this thought. It was quite difficult to write this story since I hate writing formal letters. I’m glad to inspire. 🙂
