Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers: First Date

“Can you believe it?” Taylor said, intertwining her fingers with Matthew’s. “So much is happening and here we are going on our first official date?”

Matthew chuckled lightly, “First official date.” He said slowly as if finally realizing the occasion and then he smiled, thinking of the night he had planned for Taylor. He took a step from the curb, “Well, come on, the night’s not going to last forever.”

Dodging mopeds, the two crossed onto the famous local pedestrian street. They walked, window-shopped, and a few times, they’d even gone in to browse. An hour later, settling in a booth at the restaurant at the end of the street, Matthew asked, “You’ve never been here, have you?”

“I’ve been quarantined since I was eight, remember?” Taylor was diagnosed with a strange disease that needed constant doctor supervision and she wasn’t cured until recently. Unfortunately, the cure came with lethal side-effects which can manifest at anytime. Taylor got up, “Bathroom?” Matthew pointed at the back of the room but as he did, she fell unconscious.
