Sunday Photo Fiction: House on the River

After looking at more than thirty houses in the last three months, Ed and Kendra had just about enough. They didn’t want to step into another house, not unless it was their own. One evening, the couple sat around the dining room table of their cramp apartment, three dozens photographs laid before them. “How in the world are we supposed to decide?” Ed asked. Kendra shrugged. She had always hated shopping but unfortunately, Ed’s the complete opposite.

“Let’s start with the ones we hate,” Kendra suggested. However, that was a problem. Ed liked all of them. “I’ll start.”

One by one, Kendra threw out those with the worst first impression. After some time, two dozens images laid on the ground. “Okay,” Ed said, “let’s each pick out our personal favorites.”  By coincidence, they picked the same photo – the house by the river. “So we’re settled?” Ed said after a minute. Kendra shrugged again.

After almost another two months, they finally moved in. “Are you happy with this choice?” Ed asked Kendra and for the first time in months, she smiled. However, the next day, when they woke up, they discovered the house wasn’t by the river but on the river.
