#WeekendCoffeeShare: Rainstorm, Finally!

Good morning and thank you for joining me for this lovely chat on this beautiful and cool Saturday. This week, Mother Nature has finally come through with a much-needed rainstorm which flooded the parking lot at my workplace and some cooler temperatures.

Yesterday, the temperature went from the 80’s Fahrenheit to the 60’s as the storm turned the day into night. One of my co-worker even joked, “We are doing overtime right now, working through the night.”

If we were having coffee or in my case, a steamy cup of hot cocoa with lots of whipped cream, I would tell you it’s only going to be in the mid-60’s today which is perfect to go to the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of U.S. Air Force. That’s the event I’m attending today. My mom sent me the flyer a week ago and I thought it was interesting. I hope it is. At least, it’s more interesting than taking my aunt to Costco (Wholesale) to shop for food.

She usually spends 2 hours there, tasting every food available at the sampling stands and making me explain to her what each of the foods are. Saturdays are usually the day with the most sampling. I don’t like to go there. There are people everywhere, making things tricky for me to maneuver my car.

If we were having hot drinks, I would tell you it’s been another not-so-easy week for me. Not because of work but because my mom’s shoulder is still not healing (not by her standards of quick) and she insists on carpooling with me. She works in the smack middle of Downtown Salt Lake and I work by the airport which is away from downtown.

So every morning, I have to drop her off before heading to work myself. I don’t mind that. What I do mind, however, is the back-seating driving. With her in the car, I can’t drive like I’m used to. I have to get permission before changing lanes, turning left or right, even go pass a yellow light. She makes me so anxious sitting beside me with her sudden shouts and whimpers. It makes me regret about ever complain about the traffic because even though I get to use the HOV (high-occupancy vehicle) lane, I’m never on-time to work. There’s always an idiot up ahead doing 50 or 60 mile/hour on 70+ mile/hour road.

If we were having hot drinks, I would tell you about a surprise friend request on Facebook last week. It took me a few minutes to recognize him but I was sure that it was him. I don’t know what we were/are. Were we boyfriend/girlfriend? Or were we just plain friends? We never talked or tried to find one another after I left LA and moved to Austin and I’m pretty sure I know how he found me but why now?

A few nights ago, I got my middle school yearbook from the bookshelf and found him. Now I just have to figure out whether or not I should talk to him even though it’s been 11 years.

Finally, if we were having coffee or hot drinks, I would tell you next week will be my final week as a 25-year-old. I’m a little sad to see that five turn into a six. It resembles I’m another year older. However, I heard on the radio a few days ago that according to surveys, 27 is ranked the best year of a person’s life. Hmm, I’ll be the judge of that.

  1. If 27 is the best, I want a refund. That was my worst year ever. I think things just get better with each passing year, except the aches of getting older. But the wisdom and not being a silly (read: stupid) as when I was young is worth it. 🙂

    1. I agree that some things does get better with each passing year, obviously not the getting older part 😃, but like the wisdom. We learn from our mistakes and improve ourselves as time goes on. ☺

  2. Facebook is wonderful in bringing together old friends or acquaintances. But things will be vastly different here eleven years later. After some initial greetings ask about what changes have occurred in his life since you last saw him. Education, job, family, health, etc. That will be enough chat to find out a bit about just what kind of relationship you have. If you find he has married and perhaps has three kids, you will definitely know more about your relationship! 😀 You have probably already ready his timeline, but you can still ask about photos, hobbies, trips, etc. If you don’t expect too much up front, it will probably be a pleasant renewal of acquaintance. Best to you.
