Friday Fictioneers: Mind Reader?

“Um, how much are these hats?”

“15-dollars.” The girl behind the counter answered. I sighed and placed the hat back with resignation. Is it me or is everything in this sleepy little town more expensive than all the other places I’ve traveled? “It’s handmade, you know.” The girl said. I stared at her for a second, puzzled. “Everything in this town is handmade or homegrown. That’s why everything’s so expensive.”

I scratched my head, wondering whether she had read my mind or I had accidentally spoken my thoughts aloud. “No ma’am, you didn’t speak your thoughts aloud.” The girl smiled.

  1. I like it. Telepathic shopkeepers…heaven forbid it! I say that, and I just sold a little mini-book I made (2 in x 1.5in) which was nothing more than a piece of cardstock folded around some scrap paper and put together with 1 stitch. I sold it for $10. Some people will pay anything for something homemade. I would have given it to them for free.
