I was at work when my secretary knocked and presented me with a white envelope. “A gentleman dropped this off for you.” I accepted the envelope as my secretary hastily retreated. I rolled my eyes. Why is everyone in this building afraid of me?
Inside the envelope was an orange construction paper. The words, Really to see me in the dark? were printed front and center. I instantaneously knew what this was. I couldn’t believe he got me admission to my favorite art exhibit. Suddenly, I could care less about who was lurking outside my office. I must jump for joy.

Indeed a great surprise worth rejoicing over.
Int he first paragraph you ask a question, “Why is everybody in this building afraid of me?” This line just hangs in limbo. It doesn’t pertain to anything in this short story, but in the bigger picture you may someday want to tell. I think you could “spend” those nine words on something that fits into this story, like saying who sent the note.

I think those nine words signifies her position at work and explains why her secretary retreated hastily. I think those nine words also dives into who this main character is as a person, as in she didn’t want to be look upon with fear, she’s just doing her job.
Maybe I’ll explore this character again in future stories.
Thank you for reading. 🙂

Sounds like she needs to soften up a bit… management by fear is not the best usually.
