Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers: Into the Woods

Sofia’s imagination is out of this world. She’s be sitting at her desk doing homework while her mind would be somewhere else playing the role of heroine.

That afternoon, as she sat at her desk doing her homework, she spotted a boy across the street. The boy was staring up at her. Who is that? She wondered but before any further thoughts, the boy vanished. At once, Sofia leaped from the chair and raced across the street into the woods.

As she entered the woods, she heard the scream that sent her sprinting into the woods.

There he was, the boy who she saw from her bedroom window, backed against a tree while around him, branches rose from the ground. “Help!”

“How?!” Sofia replied but she did know how. She raised her arms as she was directing an orchestra. The branches turned to her. “Down!” She shouted and stared in awe as the branches obeyed.

As the branches fell, the boy walked over to Sofia and said, “Thank you, Sofia. Now you must wake up.”
