C is for Chinese Country Feast. There was some massive old-fashioned cooking going on, I tell ya.
This took place slightly over a year ago when one of my distant baby cousins turned one-month-old during my visit to China. In China, that calls for a celebration and I was fortunate to be a part of the celebration because it’s been a long time since I’ve had a feast like this. The food was exotic (to me), gourmet, and delicious. To see the food, you should go to this post.
Just about the baby’s entire family turned up for the feast – close and extended – to fill the 22 large round tables with each table sitting 10-12 people. For me, it was a experience I will never forget. Not only I got to tour my grandma’s hometown and spend time away from the city, it was like a massive family reunion.
Everyone in my grandma’s village seemed to know who I am but I had no clue who they are. They would all say, “You’re such a big girl.”
Big? I’m the opposite of big. “She’s twenty-six already.” My grandma would reply before I could and I would watch a kind of shock wash over my relative’s face.
Yes, it’s been a mighty long time since I’ve been back.
