Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers: 4 o’Clock

At 3:55, he peeks at his watch, at 4 o’clock, I’m going to do it, he takes a deep breath and steps into the coffee shop. From there, he weaves through the crowds and heads upstairs to take his usual seat by the window, watching her as she walks down the street, earbuds in her ears and laughing as if she had heard something hilarious.

He has been studying her routine for weeks and cannot wait another day. It’s time to enact his plan.

**********

At exactly 3:58, she will step into the coffee shop and head upstairs to join her friends at their usual spot.

At 4:00, he will stick his earbuds in his ears, lower his head, and stand up where he and she will collide. As her phone falls out of her hand, he will say, “I’m so sorry. Are you okay?”

She will bend down, pick up her phone, “Yeah, are you?”

“Am I what?” He will ask as their eyes meet for the first time and fall in love like Cinderella and Prince Charming.

    1. I’m glad you like it. 🙂 The original ending for this story was much more scarier in my head but I decided against it in the last minute. 😀
