#WeekendCoffeeShare: Good Stepping At Work

Good Sunday afternoon or Sunday night for some! Thank you for joining me. Come on in for some drinks.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you it’s been a blistering hot week. It was near 100°F on Monday. At first, I thought summer was coming early because it’s usually doesn’t get this hot until the end of June or early July. Then, all of a sudden, the temperature dropped to the mid-60’s today and it made me feel freezing cold. It wasn’t very nice of Mother Nature to do this. Not nice!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I worked almost 47 hours this week – 44 hours at my full-time and 3 hours at my part-time. Not too bad. I was planning on working three more hours at my part-time but my boss from the part-time job called on Friday and told me the office was closing early. So I did a couple of overtime hours instead.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you the full-time job is going well. I managed to clean up some folders this week by invoicing customers. I cannot even tell you how much mail I opened and scanned this week. It’s part of my job, you see. I have to open the mail, stamp the exams, and scan them into the system to be invoiced by me. It’s monotonous and tedious but it beats sitting around doing nothing.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have been getting quite a workout at the new job. On an average day, my Fitbit registered me walking an average of 7,000 steps at the office and 35 floors per day. I work on the 9th floor and often, I have to go down to the 5th floor to get something to drink. Instead of waiting for the elevator, I have been taking the stairs. Going down is easy, it’s going back up that’s the exercise.

I remember my thighs were incredibly sore on Tuesday after doing 65 floors on Monday. Since then, I’ve been taking it easy, only do the entire building (floors 1-10) when I go out for my daily walk with my mom. I still got plenty of stair-climbing workout into my day, just not as many as 65 floors.

Overall, I am enjoying the freedom and flexibility of the new job and I’m glad and surprised to discover my mom didn’t bother me as much as when we worked at separate places. Maybe it really takes us working in the same building for her to leave me alone.

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me this week and hopefully, I will be back next weekend.

  1. Wow! 7000 steps is impressive! And it’s really great that you’re enjoying your new job. It sounds like you’ve been productive and maybe a little exhausted. 😕 I hope you’re able to rest soon! Have a great week!

    1. Thank you. I hope with a little less chaos at home, I can hopefully get a nap into my day since I get off work early in the afternoon. Crossing my fingers. Have a great week to you too. 🙂

  2. Stairwells are a great workout, and 65-floors is a lot! I wrote something awhile back about a mountaineer from Tokyo who started conditioning herself for Mount Everest by carrying a loaded pack up the stairwell of the skyscraper where she worked. Don’t know what to say about the 47-hours of work. 😉
Still cooler on this side of the Basin, windy too… days just touching at 80°F, and still cold enough at night to damage the chili-peppers in the garden. I actually noticed that the heater came on this morning… think it’s set at 62°F.

    Have a great week!

    1. Most of the tomatoes had died, unfortunately. I don’t know what killed it. It seems nowadays, the only things growing my garden are the things my mom plants. *sigh*
I’m glad to hear the weather’s still cool on your end. I think 65 floors is a lot if I’m just walking up the stairs but I think the end result is worth it. Have a great week.

    1. 35 floors is actually not so bad when you have to go five floors at a time just to get a tall glass of water. There’s only hot water on my floor and the water at the drinking fountain is much too cold for me. So my only other option would be to go down to the breakroom which is on the 5th floor to get water. Go for a couple of water trips as well as some errands and voila, 35 floors. Thank you for reading.

  3. Congrats about the second new job, and I’m happy the part time one isn’t taking too many hours so far. If it’s simpler stuff, maybe that’s a good thing? You will get used to the stairs. I worked at a place on three different levels of a condominium converted into an office pace. They arecperhaos not stairs as big as your skyscrapers, but nonetheless do help with fitness. We used to run sets of stairs into the river valley by our university/high school for basketball and volleyball. They are great for fitness. We would start out dying after running two sets by the end of the season could do 14 easily. When we stopped doing them outside, due to the cold, we did them inside, up two levels of stairs than down. I wish I could do that now, stairs are really great even if they make you hurt for a bit until you’re used to them. Anyways, ease into it and don force yourself. Two jobs takes energy too.

Do you like your second job, work wise, and people wise? What do you do for this new company, Accounts Paysble or Receivable, bit of both?

    Have a great week 🙂

    1. Thank you, Amanda. I’m glad the part-time job isn’t taking too many hours too.

I’m actually voluntarily taking the stairs. Just about all my coworkers take the elevator. I find that I tend to feel very unproductive waiting for the elevator to arrive, and the time spent waiting for the elevator, I can actually get some stepping into the day. Most of the time, I’m actually faster than the elevator which makes the elevator a little useless.

I like my new job, people-wise and work-wise. I like that the hours are flexible and the people are not judgy. I can just focus on finishing my daily tasks and go home even though it is repetitive. I’m still learning the whole process of billing. I do about a third of all the billing for the company. Two other ladies do the other two-thirds. The environment is fun. In fact, we just had a party today and will have another one on Thursday though I’m not going to that one. I would rather beat the traffic, go home, and take a nap. 🙂 Overall, it’s a fun place to work and I’m enjoying it.

      1. I’m really glad. Im happy the corporate cultures in both these places is so much better. You had rough start. The parties sound fun but enjoy your nap too. My new job is kind of seasonal at this point, I have one event this Saturday and one in August, then it gets super busy September to November, then not as much December and January. It’s not a bad thing. The down times allow me to rest, vacation, and do writing for clients more. But I do miss the people being home after one of these nights.

        Cheers

      2. I’m glad to hear that. I think the most important thing isn’t to work and earn money, it’s one’s happiness. So even if the pay’s a little low, I’d rather be poor and happy than wealthy and depressed. Good luck with your writing and events. 🙂
