Friday Fictioneers: So I Won’t Sink…

Based on a true story…

“Why do you waste your time on this DIY stuff?” My friend, Samantha, asks after she saw my DIY-raised-garden-picture on Facebook. “You should be looking for a job, finding a husband, hanging out with friends.” After my failure to respond within her standard allotted time of 30 seconds, she rang my phone.

I feel something bubble inside me. It was a mix of frustration, anger, and irritation.

I don’t like to admit this to anyone, especially to Samantha,. The reason I air-quote-waste-my-time on this DIY stuff is to occupy myself so I won’t sink into the deep, dark hole call Depression.

(100 words)

Each week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple hosts Friday Fictioneers where we’re challenged to write a piece of flash fiction in 100 words, more or less, based on the picture above.
