Friday Fictioneers: Retirement Project

“What are you going to do now that you’re retired?” His colleague asks.

He grins, “All the things I have been wanting to do.” At once, images pop into his head – of him setting up a chair in the comfort of his backyard along with his carving tools. I will be starting the project of a lifetime. He thinks as more images play across his mind – of his finished work, of the beautiful tree trunk with intricate design, and of reporter and people flooding through his gate to get a glimpse of his art work. “It’s going to be great.”

(100 words)

Each week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple hosts Friday Fictioneers where we’re challenged to write a piece of flash fiction in 100 words, more or less, based on the picture above.
