Friday Fictioneers: To Conquer a Fear

With her hand in mine, my daughter and I walk toward the Ferris wheel. “Are you sure you want to do this?”

She nods, “The only way to conquer a fear is to face it.”

It’s been a year since the swing accident. “If the sand wasn’t there, your daughter certainly would not have walked away with just a broken leg.” The doctor had said. The truth is: my daughter hadn’t walked away with just a broken leg, she’d walked away with a new fear.

“Mommy, it’ll be okay.” My daughter yanks me back to the present.

I smile. “Yes, it will.”
