This week’s Blogging Insights – hosted by Tanya at Salted Caramel – asks:
How organized are you when it comes to blogging? Do you have a blog schedule or do you play it by the ear?
I would say I’m pretty organized when it comes to blogging. I used to blog on the spot – publish a post then and there – but not anymore. I keep my posts on a fairly strict schedule where each post is published at 8:15 AM Mountain time.
I only play by ear when the scheduler goes haywire on daylight saving days when it doesn’t seem to run at all. Then I will have to publish the post manually and hope it does go through.
The other time I would play by ear is when I want to publish a second post on the same day. I am slightly OCD (after my dad) and publishing my posts on the spot really drives that part of me insane.
How often do you’ tidy up’ your blog? e.g. go through your Drafts Folder, or go through old posts checking for broken links etc.?
I am always thinking about how to get rid of my drafts. Currently, I have about 60 posts in my draft folder, all from between 2013 and 2017, and most are rough drafts of short stories I started writing but didn’t know how to continue. There is also a serial in there (somewhere) of a story I began writing but kept editing and editing until I don’t even recognize it anymore. I feel I’m too much of a perfectionist sometimes. Maybe one day I’ll post those drafts and empty out that drafts folder.
I don’t ever go through old posts to check for broken links. There are simply too many posts (over 3000 posts) to go through. Again (same with drafts), maybe one day, I’ll sit down and look at each post to make sure the links work.
