#WeekendCoffeeShare: Welcome, 2021! And Don’t Scare Me Like That!

Good morning and welcome to the first #weekendcoffeeshare of 2021. Do you feel that? It’s the feeling of new. It’s the feeling of hope. It’s the sensation that something great is coming.

So what are you standing out there for? It’s cold. Come on in and join me for a hot cup of something.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you it’s been a busy week at work. Not only was this week the last week of the year, it’s also the last week of the month, which means lots of people have to turn in budgets for their agency and when they can’t find their invoices, they turn to me and two other ladies. The three of us are collectively known as the “Billing Team” or the “Accounting, Billing, and Collections Department” but that’s too long so we’ll just stick with the “Billing team.”

The worst of it came on New Year’s Eve. No surprise there. Everyone procrastinated until the final minute. I didn’t think I was going to get through that day with emails popping up in my inbox every few minutes. Meanwhile, I had invoices that needed to be created and shoot out. I think I must had shot out at least 60 invoices to different agencies that day. I got most of the work in the end but it sure looks like Monday will be a long day.

If we were having coffee, I would ask what you did on New Year’s Eve. For me, it felt like 2020 was sticking its tongue out at me, giving me one final punishment or spook as its going-away-gift.

New Year Eve was just like any other day – I finished work, ate my meal, exercised, blogged, and went to bed. As I was going to bed though, I felt a chill coming on. I double-checked the vent was fully opened before climbing into bed. As my head hit the pillow, I at once registered a fever was coming on – my forehead felt warmer than usual and I felt like I was being burned from the inside.

“Oh shit,” I muttered. It better not be THAT. Just so happens, I ran out of my immune-booster that day and my insurance has not yet approved a new prescription. How great is that?

Fortunately, the fever finally broke when New Year morning came and it hasn’t come back and I haven’t had any of the obvious symptoms – fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, etc. I think and hope it’s just a one-time thing. I do NOT want to be quarantined.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have a strong feeling the next few months will be busy for me. I learned the registration for my company’s annual conference starts on January 6. Though no one really understands, I call this day “when the floodgate opens” because credit card payments will be coming in dozens a day and who’s doing the reconciliations? Me.

I remember feeling like drowning in payment reconciliations when the floodgates first opened at the end of 2019 for the 2020 conference. It took me a long while to catch up but by the time I got caught, COVID hit and every payment was refund which resulted in another round of reconciliations for me.

I am crossing my fingers this time won’t be the case.

If we were having coffee on the first Saturday of 2021, I would thank you for joining me and hope to return next week.

  1. Ah YingLan, you have one of those jobs. I completely sympathize. This work needs to be done, but like much back office tasks tends to be forgotten and ignored if at all possible, unless it breaks then it seems like the whole company is on your back to get things running smooth again.
Well, I bet you’re pretty good at keeping things quiet while processing all those transactions that keep the rest of us employed and our company retaining the right to keep their doors open for business.
Stay sane. Hang in there. We, in your blogging world, have come to count on you being there.
    HNY !

    1. I have been pretty good at it so far and it is rewarding when the payment is received. I will try to keep myself from drowning this year. Thank you for dropping by. Happy new year.

    1. Oh, I’m always inundated at work. It’s part of the unwritten job description. 😀 Just hope I don’t get too inundated to the point of drowning in work. I hope to stay healthy too. That’s a must. Thank you for dropping by. 🙂

  2. Happy New Year, Yinglan! 🙂 Glad to hear that you weren’t sick with “that”. It’s a (self-censored word). We had it back at the very beginning of March 2020, and both of us felt like we’d rather die than live for a few days. It was THAT bad. But, we survived… and all before it really hit that it had a name and was a pandemic. We’re so thankful just to have survived it. We’re looking forward to this year as being better. I can only imagine how stressful this week and next will be for you. Know that I’ll be praying for your strength and health. Eat healthy… next best thing to taking vitamins.

    1. Happy New Year. I am glad I don’t have it too because that would suck especially with so much going on.
Oh no, I’m sorry you had to go through it but I guess now you don’t have to worry about getting it again and I’m glad you survived it. Thank you for dropping by.
