#WeekendCoffeeShare: Last Weekend of March

Good morning and welcome! Come in and join me for a cup of coffee and a chat.

I would offer you some bread except I have none. I was too preoccupied with work to make any. Before you ask, I haven’t gotten my vaccine yet. It seems like there’s a shortage of Johnson’s vaccine in my vicinity. I am now thinking of waiting. I’m in no hurry.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I did not plan to work overtime this week but somehow, I went almost 3 hours over my 40 hours.

“I’m not going to work overtime this week.” I said on Thursday night. There were only about 6 hours left to complete my 40-hour work week and I know I deserve, no need, a break.

“Okay,” Mom acknowledged. Wow, that was easy, or so I thought.

Friday morning, Mom strode into my room and chided, “You’re working from home anyway. Work more overtime.”

“Do you know how tired I am?”

Mom scoffed, “Since when? The tired one is me, not you. Besides, the more work you get done now, the less you have to do later, when we can no longer work from work.”

“Who. Are. You. Kidding? My work isn’t like yours. Until we reach full automation, I’m stuck doing the same manual data entry every day.” She scoffed, ignored every word I said.

So I’ll apparently be stuck doing overtime every week, probably until I retire if I’m lucky to reach that far.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’m a bad person, at least according to mom, because I said no to helping my aunt. “Why didn’t you go pick your uncle up from the driver’s license place?” She snapped when I arrived home Wednesday afternoon, “If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t had to leave the house.”

Okay, I should point out a few things – I was downtown which was 20 miles from where my uncle was, I was in the middle of my work and couldn’t drop my things, and mom was the one who told me to say no.

I swear she makes me the bad guy when it’s convenient, which is pretty much always.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you it’s looking like July will be a busy month. I will probably spend much of the second week of July in Las Vegas, working as a staff at my work’s annual conference. It’s typically held in April but it’s been pushed to July because of everything that’s going on.

Then I’m set to play tour guide for mom and her friend during the third week of July as we head to Yellowstone. Mom was surprised I wanted to join the trip but truthfully, I was really just hoping for a few days away from work.

Now, though, I’m not so sure and perhaps I’ve made a bad decision. I’ve been to Yellowstone 4 times and there’s nothing relaxing about any of those trips. Sure, I get some great shots but those trips have all been rush, hectic, and anxiety-spiked.

Last night, mom told me I might need to make one more trip to Yellowstone this year. My aunt and uncle want to go. “Nooooooo way!”

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me in this edition of #weekendcoffeeshare and hope we’ll both return next week.

  1. Oh, my dear, it sounds like you do need a break… will be praying for you. I’m planning to get away for a few days from “hubby care” in June…the third weekend, hopefully. Not sure where I’m going, on such a tight little budget, but I’m considering booking a night’s stay at Shaker Village in Kentucky. I’ve been there many times, and it’s quiet and peaceful. Not sure if they’re “open” yet, so I’ll have to check that. I need to get away from the daily grind, but still need to be close enough that if there are problems I can get home. then, I also have to find someone reliable to come be with him for the weekend just in case he has seizures. Just to get away for a day is so difficult when he can’t be left alone.

    1. I totally understand. When there’s someone relying on you, you have to think of ways to get away while staying close by. I wish you the best of luck in planning your getaway. Thank you for visiting and have a great week ahead.

  2. I agree, you should take another trip to Yellowstone, but either with a good friend or alone. The peace and quiet should stop shocking you after a few days, then the R&R will amaze and heal your soul.
    Blessings.

    1. Unfortunately, I don’t have a friend – mom chased them all away. So I guess alone which sounds go good right now. I don’t think the peace and quiet will shock me though, surprise me might be a better word, but not shock.

    1. It is totally overwhelming. I don’t know how I made it through the last 4 times. I would love to just spend a week traversing every inch of Yellowstone at my pace.
