#WeekendCoffeeShare: Mission Accomplished

Hello, come on in, it’s going to be a hot one today. The temperature has been hovering around 100-degree-Fahrenheit the last two weeks but according to the weatherman, relief is supposed to come this coming Monday.

Would you like a cold drink?

If we were having cold drinks, I would tell you I had most of the day off yesterday due to the commemoration of a new holiday – Juneteenth. Until last year, I had no clue what Juneteenth was. It was because of Toastmaster (public speaking club) that I learned what this day was – the end of slavery in the U.S.

If we were having cold drinks, I would tell you I finally visited the dentist regarding my chipped tooth and it turned out I have bigger problems than a simple chipped tooth. That chipped tooth isn’t supposed to be there and needs to be removed soon. I also will have to see an orthodontist regarding all the teeth that are lying sideways inside my gums.

My next appointment to return to the dentist is in a month. There was a cavity I didn’t know I had and that tooth must be filled in. I have a feeling my other teeth problems are going to be a big procedure. It’ll take a while. I hope my insurance pays for most of that.

If we were having cold drinks, I would tell you I finally figured out how to set up drip irrigation for the garden beds. It felt like one of those “mission accomplished” moments even though I know I still have ways to go and I must wait until the temperature is a little bit cooler before attempting the project.

If we were having cold drinks, I would tell you my lupus has been flaring up due to the heat. I have been scratching my arms like crazy in my sleep even though there’s a fan next to me. I can only go outside these days after lathering myself head to toe in SPF 100+ sunscreen and even then, I couldn’t tolerate 5 minutes of the dry-less-than-10%-humidity heat. It’s like stepping into an oven.

I wonder how I survive Las Vegas when I visit in July. It’s even hotter than my home base.

If we were having cold drinks, I would share this 11-photo panorama – 3 rows (4-3-4) of pictures combined into a large panorama – from my hike last weekend. I had to hike up to an approximate elevation of 9,600 feet to get away from the heat in the valley. The view was absolutely stunning and I was a little surprised by the amount of snow and ice I encountered along the hike.

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me in this edition of #weekendcoffeeshare and hope we’ll both return next week.

  1. Wow — it’s been that hot in Utah too!? The weather was pretty similar in Los Angeles too. At some point it was very muggy and tropical and it even started to rain. When Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday on Thursday, our office was so perplexed if we had to close the following day. There was no announcement about us closing; we had many events in place already that day. It looks like we’ll have it off the following year.

    1. Yeah, and it’s been so dry. I bet the humidity is less than what you have in California. At least you feel muggy. The humidity has been less than 10% here. It’s nothing but dry heat. I bet lots of places were perplexed as well about what to do with Juneteenth since it was so last minute but I think you’re right, it looks like we’ll have this holiday next year.

  2. I have a love hate relationship with my dentist. THey are amazing people, but I HATE having my teeth worked on. I’m so sorry about the heat and your lupus flare ups. I live in Washington and our temps are supposed to get up into the triple digits this weekend and we aren’t used to that. Thankfully the humidity isn’t bad.

    1. I never liked the dentist and tend to avoid them like a plague but what can I say, without them in our lives, our teeth would probably gone.
I would admit though my lupus has been a little better this year thanks to having a personal AC beside me, keeping the room cool while I sleep but I do need to just be careful when I head out. I hope the weather improves for you soon.
