Friday Thoughts

I cannot believe this is happening. I am officially kissing my 20’s goodbye today and can officially call myself a 30-something. The last decade has been a ride – I spent half a decade in school and most of it (9 years) working – but no matter how bad it was, I feel my life it’s just now getting bright.

Honestly, I had imagine my life be different by now. I thought I’d be married, no kids because I don’t want any due to my health conditions. I thought I’d at least find a friend or a partner or something. Instead, I have my mom who thinks I can never do anything right, a nosy aunt who pinched my arm the last time I saw so she could tell me my arm is too flappy, and another aunt who’s a crazy hugger.

Oh and I tried many methods to find that friend including online dating which just showed me how desperate these dudes were and why they can’t find a lady friend.

Anyway, it’s time to stop dwelling on the past and move on. Maybe fate will eventually intervene and find me a compatible partner but until then, I guess I’ll blow out my 30 candles and go celebrate.

  1. Many happy returns Yinglan. Your partner is out there, you just haven’t met them yet! I was 31 before I met mine and almost 35 before I married him. I had given up on looking, because you’re right. Those on-line dudes are desperate and more often than not creepy too. 🎂🎂🎂

  2. Oh yeah, 30s are a wonderful time. Happy birthday and wishing you all the best! And that relative telling you you’re fat is such a typical Asian thing to do, coming from a half-Chinese family myself.

  3. Happy birthday! Things will fall into place, I promise you. I am 29, I’m starting my degree tomorrow, working part time from tomorrow also (18 hrs/week) and trying my hardest to get my life properly on track. You’ll meet those people, whether on or offline. All I can do is which you the very best of luck in life and I hope it all works out for you!
