#AtoZChallenge 2022 Reflection

Well, what do you know? Another month wrapped for 2022. Another A-to-Z Challenge in the history books.

I had fun with this year’s theme. It’s the reason I started this blog all those years ago – to write stories – and I think this year’s A-to-Z Challenge theme really embraced it.

I’ll admit I did feel overwhelmed at time between work, home, and trying to squeeze the next part of the story out of my head for the next day. I actually felt confident I could finish the story before the end of April since I got the first 4 chapters written at the end of 2021.

Then came the procrastination, well, not procrastination exactly, it was more like I got stuck. The movie in my head had stopped playing. The scene froze. I was so frustrated.

I was about a week ahead when April came, up to the letter H on around April 1. That was when it stopped. I knew who the victim would be but how do I get there?

Fortunately, as I began writing, the movie came back on in my head but it wasn’t the same one. The plot changed. Not Scooby Doo and gang chasing down and running away from bad guy vibe as I had originally planned. Instead, it’s got a Sara Shepard meets James Patterson vibe (two of my favorite authors). I didn’t know what in the world was happening but decided I better roll with whatever this is.

So, no, the story, especially the middle and the ending weren’t what I had originally pictured in my head. That is not to say I didn’t enjoy this adventure. I had a thrill writing all those cliffhangers, which I think it’s what I do best and something I love to do. Hey, maybe that will be my theme for 2023 – 26 cliffhangers, wouldn’t that be fun?
