Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #226: Textures

Jude from the blog, Cornwall in Colours, is the guest-host for this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and the interesting theme of Textures was chosen.

According to the Meriam-Webster Dictionary, the word Texture can defined as:

  • the visual or tactile surface characteristics and appearance of something
  • a composite of the elements
  • something composed of closely interwoven elements
  • identifying quality: character

The above photo was taken in October and I think it’s a very good example of textures – the surface of the mountain has uneven texture and the dotting of the spruce trees adds texture to the photo.

This is one of my all-time favorite black and white photo. It was taken right outside of the entrance for Yellowstone after a cold snowy night. Black and white photos is usually my last resort for a photo because one must make the elements stand out in a black and white photo like the road in this photo. I think the streaks of snow on the ground really added some additional texture to the road.

Finally, I will conclude with this photo, taken earlier this year. I think there are texture everywhere in this photo from the waves on the water to the rocky shore of the lake to the twig to the clouds. Different types of textures can be found everywhere in nature and it’s the easiest thing to spot. You just got to go find it.

  1. I love the first photograph, it is quite abstract and reminds me of a patterned rug, great textures. And yes the snow in the black and white image, one can feel the softness and coldness of the snow on the verge and the crisp iciness of the snow on the road. Thank you for joining in with the challenge Yinglan, you have some lovely photographs.

  6. All gorgeous textures, Yinglan! Your opener is my absolute favourite though. I agree with Jude that it looks like a rug or even a beautiful tapestry. I would glasly hang it on my wall.

    1. Thank you. I love the close up shot of the mountain, too though I didn’t think it looked like a rug until now that I got a second glance. You made me see the picture in a new light. 🙂
