#WeekendCoffeeShare – Thanksgiving 2022

Good morning! Would you like to go for a walk in the park? It’s a lovely wintry day to grab a mug of coffee and enjoy nature.

This week is Thanksgiving week, which means I get a 4-day weekend. I’ve been taking advantage of the sunny days (even though it’s cold) to do laps in the park. It’s a great way to get my steps in and I quite enjoy listening to music while I walk.

I recently re-organized my music library and got rid of all the songs that were too slow for my liking and songs I’ve grown tired of listening to. I also added all kinds of music to my music library like late 90’s to early 2000’s pop for nostalgia, oldies from the 70’s and 80’s, last decade’s country and pop, and recent pop and country. I usually do an everything shuffle while I’m on these walks and when I’m in my car during medium to long distance (30-1 hour) drives.

I started my hair growth treatment this week. I’m not even sure if my hair is really thinning but I’ve sure grown tired of mom pointing out all the invisible bald spots which it seems like only she can see. She has also made it a mission to tell her siblings that I’m going bald, pointing out how thin my pony tail has now become as well as my receding hairline. I now no longer wear my hair in a pony tail. Instead, I twist my hair into a pony tail before using a jaw clip to secure it in place. It looks less conspicuous that way.

The hair growth treatment is just a bunch of oils – vegetable, soy bean, olive, tea tree, rosemary, etc. – mixed together. It must be heated first before applying. It feels weird applying warm oil to my scalp. I had to restraint myself from touch my hair for the rest of the day as the oil will be on my hands and it doesn’t wash out easily. I’m not even sure if I can even wash out of my hair.

Seems like just one problem after another and it looks like the problem of my hair may be caused by either my chronic illnesses or stress. I don’t think it can be solved by oils or any kind of hair tonic, unfortunately.

Like almost everyone else in the U.S on Thanksgiving, we had a Thanksgiving meal (a version of it, at least). The event was held at my aunt’s house and as usual, there was seafood but more surprisingly, there was turkey. The bowl to the right of the chicken, that’s the remnants of a turkey after being disintegrated in a pressure cooker.

I thought the only thing I could eat was the chicken as it was obvious I couldn’t eat the crab because of my braces. There was no way I would crack the shell open with my teeth as my teeth still hadn’t re-gained total strength after the installation of the upper braces. Surprisingly though, I could enjoy a lobster tail, of course saying a quick prayer thanking the lobster for its sacrifice first.

Overall, Thanksgiving 2022 went okay. There was no fights, no whines (except when mom freaked out about the floaters in her eye), and no temper tantrums. I consider that a success.

#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by and hope to chat again same time next week.

  1. Hi Yinglan,
Yea – I agree that your hair-thing, if it’s anything at all, is much more likely to be due to stress rather than your age. Unless that photo of you is 3-4 decades old, you’re still young and should be enjoying it.
Just my opinion, you should be looking for stress reductions rather than walking around with oils-soaked hair.
I’m so glad you had a successful thanksgiving. There were a few years after I got married that my presence at her family’s thanksgiving were just bizarre arguments that I could not understand why anyone tolerated the contestants.
But all is well on that front now and we had a great thanksgiving.
    Blessings.

    1. Hi Gary, I’ve been looking for ways to de-stress – write, crochet, go for a walk. All these things have been just temporary. It just feels like whenever I put on my noise-cancelling earbuds, someone is shouting to get my attention, which gets me stressed again. Ugh.

  2. I agree with your commenters. Hair loss at a young age can usually be linked to stress. When my dad died, I was about 35 and it came out by in handfuls. It grew back. Medications can also cause a problem if you have cancer. I think even hair coloring can cause some problems with hair loss. Nioxin – the shampoo helps a little. So does Biotin which is vitamin B7. There is no proof of this, but I have taken it and it helps a little. 🙂 Good luck!

    1. Thank you. I will try my current method before researching on supplements. I’m currently on 3 medications for my chronic illnesses and not certain I want to take any other pills including dietary supplements. Thank you for the suggestion.

      1. I am so sorry for you having to take medications for chronic illnesses. I didn’t take any supplements when I was taking my cancer medications and blood thinners. I felt it was much more important to take care of the business of getting better and worry about my hair later. It’s still thin, but oh well. Best of luck to you for all that you are going through, Yinglan.
