Her mother gently tapped on her shoulder, “Sophie, go put on your winter coat. We’re heading out.”
Sophie removed her headphone and looked up from her coloring, “Where are we going?”
Handing Sophie a backpack and a coat, Sophie could tell her mother had been crying again. Her mother wiped her tears, “We, are going on a field trip. It’ll be fun. You like field trips, right?” Sophie nodded, despite her mother’s answer was quite vague.
A short while later, after getting dropped at the train station by the bus, Sophie and her mother boarded the express train out of town. Headphone over her ears, Sophie concentrated on the scenery flying by outside the train window and tried not to think about where they were going and they would be sleeping that night since, even if she didn’t know any better, she knew they would be returning home.

A very interesting story Yinglan. I think they are going away for good- perhaps fleeing an abusive husband? Thanks for joining in.
