This Thanksgiving has been quiet for the most part. We didn’t get invited to any big feasts. We just stayed home which I was more than glad to do so. I got to spend the morning watching the Macy’s parade and do my work at the same time – the beauty of being able to watch TV on my computer. I got quite a bit done on one of my final assignments and I even got some family business taken care of. Finally!
We had our Thanksgiving meal a day early. Our Thanksgiving meal consisted of Cantonese-style hot pot which was perfect considering it was cold and snowing. My aunt took all of the pictures with her phone. For those who are unfamiliar with the concept of hot pot, it’s basically a self-serve meal. All the raw meat and seafood are prepared in bowls and plates. Get what you want and toss it in a boiling pot of soup.
The food in the large bowl with the floral decoration was my favorite by far. It had beef meatball, shrimp meatball, and imitation crab meat. My mom and aunt’s favorite were the shrimps and squids in the green bowl.
Then we had some vegetable to go along with all the meat. After all, you can’t have all meat. That wouldn’t be right nutrition-wise.
For the soup base, my mom prepared a simple ginger and carrots soup. As for the accompanying sauce, my aunt prepared a combination using spicy sesame oil and hot sauce while my mom and I had regular sesame oil and soy sauce as well as sesame oil and oyster sauce.
This was how it looked once we got everything boiling. Yum, it was a good meal and a great Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving Yinglan. I spent today at home relaxing too and enjoyed every quiet minute too! Glad you were able to spend the day as you pleased and accomplish some things too!! That last picture looks delicious! 🙂
