“I love you because…” she prompted.

“Because you are my light,” he finished, “you make my heart whole, you are like this never-ending ray of light that permanently shining in my universe.”

“Then say the words.” They have been dating for over 6 months and she has never heard him say those three words once. She said it, why can’t he?

“What words?” He chuckled, feigning ignorance.

“You know…” she prompted, “I…” With her hands, she drew a heart in the air. After a moment, she threw up her hands, “Are you serious? 6 months, we’ve been together 6 months and never once have I heard you say the words to me. Are we even real?”

“I…” he began and stopped, realizing he had never said those words to anyone. “I…” he began once more but couldn’t make the next word to come out. He truly loved her, he knew with all of his heart. Why, then, couldn’t he say the words, “I love you?”

    1. This idea actually came to me via an audiobook. In it, the guy wouldn’t say those 3 words and made the girl have second thoughts of whether the guy was cheating on her. So, those words may not matter but to some those words matter a lot.
