What do you see #287 – The Dream

“Twinkle twinkle little star, do you know how loved you are.”

Stacie woke with a loud gasp. She was still in her cubicle. Before her, the screen on her laptop had turned black, a sign she had dozed off for over 30 minutes. Tapping on the mouse pad, the computer sprung back to life, with the time displaying in bold fonts – 5:00 AM.

“5 AM?” It took Stacie a moment to realize she’s been at the office all night and still had not finished the article her boss wanted her to write. “Holy cow!” She gasped and in a frenzy, ran her fingers across the keyboard to enter the password into the computer.

The Word document she had started before she fell asleep sat minimized at the bottom of the screen. She maximized the screen and felt all the colors drained from her face. On the screen was the phrase, “Twinkle twinkle little star, do you know how loved you are,” repeated over and over spanning the 3 pages she’s written.

“What the…” She blinked and blinked, as if expecting those words to go away and be replaced by the words she’s actually written, while in her head, she kept repeating, it’s all in your head, it’s all in your head, it’s all in your head. “It’s not possible,” she closed her eyes and shook her head, while hoping that this was all a dream.

Where has she even seen that phrase before? She tried to think, tried to visualize taking a trip to her memory bank, but came up with nothing. “I must be dreaming. It’s the only logical explanation.” She glanced around the office, there was no one there, “I have to be dreaming. This is the office of one of the busiest newspaper in the country. It’s never empty.” Sitting back, she closed her eyes and sighed, “Come on, Stacie,” she muttered, “wake up. You will surely be in your bed. Wake up now.”

In the semi-darkness of her darkness, Stacie bolted upright with a gasp.
