What do you see #304 – A brief escape

Continue from this story…

When she tossed her high school graduation cap in the air, Erin couldn’t wait to escape the place she’d known all her life. She had chosen to attend college half-way across the country, wanting to experience life in a busy metropolis instead of riding horses and attending to the needs of cows and chickens. She wanted to explore all the alternatives life had to offer.

When she graduated college and finally had a well-paying job, she decided to go on her first vacation abroad. No matter how many places she had visit though, she had always felt that her time away from the farm was limited, that somehow, some way, her parents will find a way to lure her back to the piece of land she had grown up on.

It’s been a month since Erin had to say goodbye to her life in the city. Autumn had descended onto the farm, turning the land into a field of gold and soon, winter would be here. Standing at the window of her dad’s study, Erin stared out, watching for a moment while Todd tended to various farm chores. He has no doubt been helpful around the farm, she could see why her mother hired him. Maybe mom wasn’t trying to set me up, she thought as a black butterfly fluttered by, and for just a moment, Erin thought she saw the butterfly wave at her.

Potentially to be continued…
