Yesterday, I took my dear old car out on a drive. Yes, dear and old. It’s a ’95 Ford Escort that I do NOT ever want to sell. Anyway, the last time I drove this car was about 2 weeks ago, round trip 50 miles to my orthodontist and I haven’t driven this car or any car since.
I was so afraid my driving would become rusty or worst, forget how to drive. After all, not driving for two weeks is a mighty long time. But, I had no problem. I don’t want to brag but I thought I drove better than before.
As I backed out of the garage and got to the T-intersection behind my house, I noticed both sides of the street were lined with cars! I was like what is going on?! It’s a Tuesday afternoon, there’re not supposed to be this many cars.
After stopping for 1, 2, 3 seconds, I saw there wasn’t any cars coming so I proceeded. Then out of nowhere came a truck! I slammed on the brakes like in one of those action movie and the truck swerved by me, missing me. WHEW!!! 😮
That was so close, wasn’t it? Then as I began to turn again, from the other direction came a SUV! I couldn’t wait anymore, I was too far out on the road. I quickly turned the wheel and completed my turn. WHEW again!!!
My trip to the grocery store had already become interesting. Then as I browsed through aisles and aisles searching for the things my mom wanted me to buy and suddenly remembered, I forgot the coupons! Mom’s going to kill me if I spent a couple bucks more on grocery.
So I quickly grabbed a bag of grapes and some beef, paid, and got the hell out. I went straight to the school where I worked and collected my last paychecks and headed straight home. I dropped off the grapes and the beef, grabbed the coupons and drove back to the grocery store. The self-checkout clerk was like, “You again!”
I felt my face went dark red and told him, “I forgot to buy these.” Then I ran each item across the scanner, then the coupons, paid, and finally got back home 1 hour later. A total of 20 miles wasted on the road. That’s what I get for living in the suburbs, everything is far far away.
As soon as I got back home, I began to yawn but I couldn’t take a nap, it was almost 4 pm and I only worked for 2 hours today. So I broke my non-dairy diet and ate a couple scoops of ice cream. I felt horrible about breaking my diet but I comforted myself, telling myself it’s just a little taste and it was awesome! For those of you who’s never had Ben & Jerry ice cream, it is the most awesome thing you’ll taste and that’s just my opinion.
See, my mom’s only been back to work for two days and my life had already gotten interesting and thrilling.
Thanks for listening!
Y. Zheng 🙂
