Superstitions

Superstitions. Don’t want to believe in them but sometimes, they are ridiculously accurate.

superstitionWhen I was growing up, whenever my mom felt her right eye twitched, she freaked out like the world’s ending or something. She says when the right eye twitches, it means something horrible is about to happen. When the left eye twitches, it means good things or fortune is coming. I laughed at it but then again, it usually comes true even though most of the time, it’s just some minor thing like stubbing toes, surprise bill, etc.

I remembered right after my small car accident in the summer of 2010, after I made it home and balled my eyes out. Later that night, she told me that minutes before I called her about the accident, she felt her right eye rapidly twitched for a few minutes. Ridiculously frightening, right?

Not long after I began college, I developed the same involuntary twitches too. They were like a psychic telling me my future. Although sometimes it is rather annoying and horrifying yet at the same time exciting. Except when my left eye twitches at the end of each semester, right after the finals and before the grades come out.

A few days ago, last Thursday morning, to be exact, my left eye twitched (not a good sign). That afternoon, I went to the grocery store to refill the 5 gallon bottle for our water cooler as well as on the way back, recycle all the magazines and newspapers in a nearby recycling dump. As I got the pile of magazines out of my trunk, one of the covers sliced this long thin cut on my pinkie and blood started oozing out. I didn’t want to believe it but my gut was like I TOLD YOU SO!

Then my left eye twitched again on Saturday night when I got this ridiculously huge bill for my lab work. $120 for a small tube of blood?! My eyes popped out like a cartoon character. It’s my blood. Not only did I have to suffer the pain of the needle but what did you get out of it, not much! Again, the annoying psychic work of my left eye. Thank god I got it taken care of though.

Even just now, my left eye twitched AGAIN and I get a call from my doctor telling my authorization to get x-rays had EXPIRED!!! Damn health insurance, they never do anything good. Anyway, my superstitions aside, do you have any weird superstitions?

  1. Superstitions. I know they’re silly, but I’m too superstitious to abandon them. That’s crazy about the eye twitch. I’m just one of those people who knock on wood, quite frequently. Though, I also believe that when we expect things to happen, that can make us more aware of their manifestation. Very intriguing post!

    1. Yeah, the eye twitch is a little crazy but it always comes true for me. Like when my right eye twitches, I get good grades and a good day in general.
