My aunt and uncle were TV maniacs. I remembered
when I lived with my aunt and uncle in China, every night, as their favorite prime-time show came on, they would care about nothing else, not even washing the dishes. Their eyes would be glued to the TV at that exact moment. Most of the time, it’d be some drama that took place in ancient China but one way or another, it’s set around a supernatural myth.
Once in a rare while, when I was freed from homework, I would join them too. I tell you, those shows were not only entertaining but also crazy addictive. Once you watched one episode, you can’t stop until the end of the finale episode.
It gave me wild dreams and imagination, always involving a semi-transparent curtain, where a female prophet who doesn’t want to show the world her face and a desperate male character trying to save his beloved. As I thought back on this recently, I’ve come to the realization that that semi-transparent curtain mean something.
In my opinion, we all have a semi-transparent curtain, some of us even have multiple ones. It’s call INSECURITIES or the fear of being judged or misunderstood. Everyone have those and that curtain is where some people goes to hide when they’re about to face it.
For me, blogging has become my little own curtain to hide behind because here, people cannot judge me by my appearance. All that matters are the words I write. You can’t judge words. Words are beautiful one way or another. Therefore, with blogging, I can social without worrying about what people think of the way I look. I think that is a better idea than put me in a room full of stranger where I can use nothing but my looks.
To sum it up, my insecurities consist of two words, FIRST IMPRESSIONS. First impressions are important in life because when you step out into the public, people will look you up and down and judge how you look, how you dress, and how you act before walking away or starting a conversation with you. Getting readers on blogs is the same thing but instead of judging how you look, people are judging how you write.
I’m not saying having insecurities are bad. It’s a naturally part of who we are. I believe even superheroes have some sort of fear or insecurities. But in time and baby steps, we may learn to overcome them and slowly step out from behind the curtain.
Thanks for listening and Have a great day! 🙂
