So I am just now getting home after spending the past 5 hours touring and learning about a CPA firm. I must admit, I had an interesting time. I didn’t think I’d have a good time talking to people. I thought I’d get bored very quickly. But I got to learn about all the different aspects of working in public accounting as well as go into detail of what an accountant actually do.
There were some areas of frustration though, like the fact that my mom tagged along. Although I don’t think people suspected us of being mother and daughter since I introduced us as friends when I made the reservation. Actually, the way she was urging me to ask questions, to do this do that. I think she’d already blown her cover the first 5 minutes of arrival. At one time during the presentation, she got angry and kicked me under the table because I was unconsciously playing with my name-tag. Well, I was partly bored and hungry and there’s no way I could’ve stuffed a cookie in my mouth without anyone noticing.
In the end, the tour gave me a lot of insight but at the same time, it cast some doubt in my mind. I was so set on auditing and after the presentation, I was still set on auditing but after the technology consulting presentation, I began to question my decision. Uh, maybe leaning toward the technology aspect of accounting would be a better choice for me since I have a somewhat useless degree in civil engineering. Maybe it’d be a good chance for me to mash the two together. Someone agreed. He gave me his business and recommended me to spend a day shadowing him. Wouldn’t that be a good experience? Anyway, I had fun today.
Oh, by the way, for those with sharp and curious eyes, you’ll notice there’s some changes to the menu at the top. I’ve added a new page called “Flash Fiction“.
