What is your signature tune?
What do I mean by signature tune?
I mean the type of music you play often. And when you have it playing, people will recognize it as your favorite music!
I used to listen to a lot of music, a lot more than now.
I probably have written about my introduction to music in a previous post long ago. My step-father introduced me to music shortly after I came the US. Before then, I don’t recall that I was ever an avid music listener. My step-father introduced me to the radio and taught me to use the scroll wheel and dials to tune the stations. I didn’t have the luxury of a digital tuner until I got my first car.
For me, chronologically, TV came first. I started watching the Disney Channel before discovering Radio Disney on the radio. That’s the station that introduced me to music.
Prior to the radio, though, I would listen to my step-father play the guitar and thought the sound was lovely as he rhythmically picked the strings with a pick.
I started leaning toward American country and European folk music after I moved to Utah in 2017 when I found pop music no longer appealing with its swearing and constantly adding random rap verses in the bridge of the songs. I find country and folk music milder, not as aggressive, and a lot of the songs tell a story that remind me of the good ol’ days as opposed to the complicated present.
I mostly listen to music while I’m driving these days. The bluetooth connection in my car allows me to play music from my phone with no commercial interruption. I find music relaxes me while I drive and keeps all the bad thoughts at bay.
My car acted wonky a few weeks ago and I lost my music as I was driving to get groceries. I did not feel right at all without my music. I was jittery as I was trying my darnedest trying to stave off the bad thoughts that was entering my mind at a flying pace. Fortunately, I made it to and back in one piece.
I can’t, however, listen to music while I work and write. I get distracted and when I’m distracted, either nothing comes out or my grammar is all over the place. The only things I can listen to are podcasts and audiobooks. I don’t know the reason behind it but listening to people talk keeps me calm.
As for signature tunes, I have lots and lots of them. When it’s playing, if I’m alone, I’ll sing along in the loudest way possible, if I’m out in public, you probably won’t notice much except a subtle bob of my head but inside, I’d be singing along.

Thanks Yinglan for sharing your thoughts! I think any music that resonates with us is good. I too personally don’t like the songs with too much swearing
