I must confess, I have a fear of drowning. It’s the reason why I failed at learning to swim. I actually only recently realized this when I started reminiscing on the times when my step-father tried to teach me to swim. I remember my heart would start pounding out of my chest the moment I was up to my neck in water. What my step-dad did next made me squeeze my eyes shut and shiver.
He pushed my head underwater. I wasn’t ready for it. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t scream. When he let me up, he laughed. Not cool. Hadn’t he heard of torture? Since then, I refused to let anyone teach me to swim.
My point is despite all science point to us having the nature capability to float in water, I can’t do it. I imagine the only time I can will probably be when I’m dead, but as long as I’m alive and my heart is pounding out of my chest, I can’t float in water.
There’s a man-made pond at the university where I earned my accounting degree. It was my favorite place to visit with my little point-and-shoot camera that I carried with me. There’s always something to see there, even on a cold winter’s day when much of the pond had frozen over.
They call the pond the “Duck pond”.
It’s the place where ducks, mallard, and geese like to congregate. There also would always be a fear of running over these wild animals with a car when we drive by and they needed to cross the road. Sometimes, I do wonder whether these creatures have any worries at all.
Lastly, have I mention I enjoy people watching? I know, it sounds creepy but have you ever just sat on a bench or somewhere and just watched people?
This photo was taken during the last and final family outing. While everyone else were arguing of where to set up the tent, the table, the chair, etc., I just stood, watching this person paddleboard around the lake. It’s a lot more fun than listening to my mom and her siblings arguing, I tell you that.

That’s no way to learn to swim. Sorry you had to experience that. Love the lone paddler on the lake!

I agree, that’s a horrible way to learn to swim.
Thank you. 🙂

It’s the only thing I like about airports when I finally get to my gate. I watch people. But I rarely travel these days. The mall is the best I can do. Then I am rushing to get out. No time to watch people.
You will float. Remember that in case one day all you can do is float. Relax. Breathe. Look at the sky. You will float. ❤️

I live across from the mall but it doesn’t appeal to me at all. I guess I’d rather sit on my comfortable couch than a wooden bench at the mall.
