Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #310 – ZigZag

Happy Sunday! This week, the Lens-Artists team is back with Patti leading the challenge with the theme – Zigzag.

Is it me or does zigzag feel like a man-made pattern?

I feel like I don’t see much zigzagging in nature. A lot of the time, I see zigzags in architectures, roads, and other man-made things.

Anyway, this was the first picture that came to mind at the mention of zigzag. I took this photo near the Utah State Capitol this spring and to be honest, I’ve never noticed this path before this year. Maybe it’s because when I visit the Capitol building each spring, I’m focused on the cherry blossoms instead of the view on the other side of the street.

During this visit, however, I remember the weather was not at all pleasant – chilly and snowy – and somehow, when I got out of the car, the first thing I did was look at the view on the opposite side of the street.

Can you see the zigzagging of this road?

This is Moki Dugway – a semi-unknown tourist spot in southern Utah near the Utah-Arizona border. I drove through there during my Christmas road trip last year and if I have a chance to go back, I would do it in a heartbeat even if means another 8-hour drive.

I believe I drove around 7 hours to get to this spot and this wasn’t even my final destination. I was close though. This was the final stop before I finished the drive of the day.

I was standing at the highest spot when I took this picture and boy, oh, boy, was this a sweet view.

Anyone who’s ever been to the Dotonbori in Osaka, Japan will prbably recognize this.

I didn’t even know this picture existed until I went digging through my photo library for this challenge.

Did you know the right triangle, specifically an isosceles triangle (with 2 equal sides) is the strongest shape?

When I was studying to be an engineer, I couldn’t believe how many triangles I had to draw. The instructors kind of drilled into our heads that most structures are enforced with right triangles.

If you ignore the horizontal lines, it kind of looks like a zigzag pattern.

If you haven’t noticed, the images in this post zigzagged as well with photos alternating between left and right.

Anyway, this final image is of the fire escape stairwell for the building before my work’s office building.

Before COVID, when we were all commuting every day between home and the office, I used to take afternoon walks to refresh my brain and keep me from falling asleep at work. My usual route is the mall across the street but usual routes get boring at times. So when I can, I like to go explore the area around the work building because one never know what treasure lies ahead if one does not go explore, right?
