A fictional story, yet how I feel at the moment…
It’s been a week since it happened…
The utilities were cut due to non-payment. Tell me, how can one afford such luxury as power, gas, and water if the cost of those things keep going up each month?
Yes, I have a job.
Yes, I have a paycheck.
No, I cannot afford utilities because after groceries, phone, and house payment, I only have $200 left in the bank. Utilities are $500 a month, at least it was before it was cut. I’m even thinking of moving because what good is it if I have to sit by the window each night and read by candlelight, hoping it would quit raining and give me a little more light? I can only charge my phone at work, a coffeeshop or a library. I can only shower at a truck stop. Tell me, what good is it when I’m earning a middle-class income but I can’t afford anything?

This is a question I think more and more people are asking themselves.

I’m sorry I missed your post Yinglan. I’ll add it to the roundup. A very realistic story. Many of us are facing this issue

No worries. I agree, many of us are facing this issue despite having a decent paying job.
