Friday Fictioneers: It’s over

After number of days (I lost count), the water began to retreat back to the ocean, leaving behind garbage like twigs. The first to crawl out of the hiding place was a child, no more than 7 years of age. Her hair was a greasy mess and she looked wild.

Is it over? I wondered. Is the second genesis event over?

The girl took a few steps forward, as if treading water, before letting out a laugh and running down the beach. One following another, the adults emerged, shielding their eyes from the sunlight. I couldn’t believe it, it’s over.
