She stares up at the enlarged poster and then looks down at the notepad on the desk. She picks up the pen and attempts to jot down a few ideas but after a few moments, her gaze returns to the poster as she downs the remaining wine in her cup.

She sighs, “It’s no use.”

Book club was the best thing that’s happened to her. It made her commit to reading and coming up with ideas for her stories. It was the thing that helped her publish her first novel because ideas kept coming as she read book after book. She would pick up a pen and her hand would start scribbling ideas on the page and before long, she would have a long-form story ready to go.

She has been struggling ever since the Book Club dismantled for unknown reasons. One day, everyone just stopped showing up. She tried reading but without anyone to discuss the book with, she lost the joy of reading.

Standing up from her chair, she walks over to the bookshelf in the corner of the room. A majority of the books were bought at the thrift store and a majority of those titles have not been read by her. Randomly, she picks up a title and scans the synopsis on the back cover. “Interesting,” she mutters and starts reading.
