#AtoZChallenge 2025 – Banff

Banff National Park was one of five national parks my aunt and I visited in 2017 when we decided to take a trip to visit all the national parks along the Canadian Rockies. That was the year when Canada celebrated its 150 year anniversary and handed free National Park passes to anyone who applied online. The other four national parks we visited were Jasper, Kootenay, Yolo, and Waterton Lakes.

When I searched my photo archive, this photo showed up. It’s the photo I took of the Banff Hotel as my aunt and I walked alongside the river below. I remember at the time, I told my aunt that it’s my goal to stay at this hotel at least once in my lifetime. I now have a list of “at least once in a lifetime stay hotels” and this hotel is in the top 3 alongside Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone and an expensive suite at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

To be honest, I don’t remember much about Banff National Park other than visiting the town of Banff and visiting the Cave and Basin National Historical Site. We had spent a majority of our trip exploring the Icefield Parkway and Jasper National Park that we gave the other 4 parks little attention.

One of the highlights for me about Banff was the food. My aunt and I ate at a couple of the restaurant. For her, it was the Spaghetti Factory, which she still talks about to this day. For me, strangely, it was the rib that I can remember fondly even though I’m not usually a big meat eater.

  1. That’s a great photo. When I was a kid, my family did a trip through the Canadian Rockies parks, and I know we were in Banff. Alas, like you, I can’t say that I remember a lot about it. Hope you get to stay in all the hotels on your bucket list.
