#AtoZChallenge 2025 – Capitol Reef National Park

I was torn between choosing Canyonland National Park and Capitol Reef National Park but ultimately, I must choose my favorite national park.

I have been to this park 3 times and there might be a 4th time in May when I take a trip to Goblin Valley State Park and may I say, Capitol Reef has never seized to amaze me. Even though the landscape remains pretty much the same, I have never managed to capture the same picture twice. It has looked different every time I’ve visited.

September 2018 was the first time I’ve visited and I was by myself when I visited. I had planned the trip months in advance knowing I would be myself for a brief period of time. It was a 2-day trip with the overnight stay in the nearby town of Bicknell. I love traveling by myself because I can stay in one location for as long I want without needing to satisfy someone else’s wants. It’s the reason that made this trip so great.

My second visit was in May 2021 with my aunts and uncle. I drove my own car this time. This trip wasn’t just about Capitol Reef and we only had a day to spend in the park. Capitol Reef was just a side trip with the main trip being Highway 12. Side trip or not, this park is always worth a visit.

Visit #3 was in December 2023 and it was completely unintentional. I didn’t even know I would be passing through this park until Google Maps led me here. I was trying to get to Monument Valley but it appeared I must pass through this park to get there. I don’t think it’s the only route but I was surprised Google led me here.

The park was nearly empty at that time of the year. I was on somewhat of a time crunch to make the tour at Monument Valley but since I was there anyway, might as well at least visit my favorite spot in the park – Panorama Point – and grab a photo or two.

  1. That place is gorgeous! My wife and I are planning on our next vacation being visting a national park or two. Your Challenge contributions should prove very helpful. My post today continues my ABC’s of Me theme with C is for Christian.

    1. Thank you. If I could choose, I would choose late summer or fall to visit Capitol Reef because the orchard there would be full of fruit to pick.
