The ground rumbled as the volcano erupted, spewing lava in streams of orange and yellow. Beside her, Cassie’s mother held on to Cassie’s arm in a vise grip. She could feel her mother’s stare penetrating a hole at the side of her head.
Cassie didn’t want to bring her mother on this excursion. In fact, she didn’t want to bring her mother on this trip at all. Her mother hates this kind of adventure, hates travel period, but for some reason, she just had to tag along.
“Was it worth it?” Her mother shouted in Cassie’s ear.
Absolutely, Cassie thought.

Ugh, I have a feeling the mother isn’t someone who lets her daughter go anywhere solo, no matter how old she is.
