Glancing at the time on her watch, she waits for the train to arrive. It feels strange that the last time she was here, there were throngs of people and now, it’s nearly empty. Where is everybody? She wonders.
That morning, her parents tried to convince her once more to stay, “There are opportunities here,” her mother said. “Why do you insist on heading north?”
“There are more opportunities there than here in Guangzhou, ma.”
At last, the train pulls into the station, giving the station one last look, hoping to see her parents, she boards the train to Shanghai.

It’s just the name of the challenge, doesn’t mean I have to post on Fridays.

I think leaving home feels the same across cultures. If we didn’t think life would get better, why would we ever leave the nest? Tracey

I could really feel the slight tension in the person heading north, with all the opportunity it holds, while also feeling that grounded connection to family (while waiting for a transport that was a grounded connection….hmm)

Thank you. I tried to emphasize that tension when I was writing the story.
