Reflecting on the Weekend

It’s been about 4 days since I did a major hardware upgrade on my laptop and so far, I’m still getting used to it. For those who hasn’t read my post on Saturday, I upgraded the solid-state drive (SSD) from 256 GB to 2 TB, removed the old-school 1 TB hard disk drive (HDD), and upgraded the battery from 41 watt-hour (Wh) to 56 watt-hour. After removing the HDD, the computer became ghostly quiet as opposed to the constant running of the fan and an annoying yet comforting clicking noise, which I did not know came from the HDD.

I used to look to that clicking sound to ensure the computer was running smoothly. Now, without it, it makes me feel nervous, as if something would happen at any second. On the other hand, I guess now I know what’s been draining the old battery, making it not last as long, as well as why the fan is running all the time.

From time to time, I’m still checking whether the storage is disappearing like before but even if it’s being sucked by an app or something within Windows, I probably wouldn’t know, unless it’s over 0.02 TB. Anyway, I guess I will have to get used to the quietness of my upgraded laptop and enjoy the extra storage space.

It’s been a busy weekend for sure. In fact, my body feels like it’s been beaten to a pulp. My shoulders are sore, I can barely sit up straight, and don’t even make me mention my knees. Ow! And it was all for these sweet potatoes.

With first frost scheduled to happen before Halloween, I feel like I’m in the final inning of the 2025 garden season – clean up, which was what I was doing all weekend.

On Saturday, I spent most of the day removing the determinate tomato plants in the front garden and finding ways to compost the debris. My composts bins were full but thankfully, one of them had compost ready to be sieve. Yay for more compost! So I had an empty compost bin after sieve the ready compost. I also said goodbye and removed all the cucumber plants that night. I guess cucumber season is officially over in my garden.

On Sunday, it was finally time for the sweet potatoes to come out. I worked all day and removed 8 slips (plants). This picture doesn’t show all the sweet potatoes because by the time I finished pulling the 8 plants, my mom had already given away about a quarter of the harvest to her brother and sister. If I didn’t tell her I’m saving one to give to my co-worker, she would’ve given away all my sweet potatoes in a heartbeat. She later told me she would rather her family have it than letting me share among my co-workers.

Anyway, I think it was a pretty good harvest so far. I still have 4 more slips I must pull before the end of the month. The size definitely made up for the quantity. Most of the tubers were huge. I guess it’s the perk of procrastinating because these should had been harvested a month ago.
